We had a conference last Friday with Will's teachers so I thought I'd sum up what we talked about. I was envisioning them telling us we had a future bully on our hands, but that's not the case (at least for now). Whew! Will's teachers made us feel much better about the typical toddler behaviors we've been seeing at home and hearing about at school. They even showed us a few videos of Will and one of them is demonstrating his biting. They just happened to be filming him when it happened... imagine that!
We received a lot of good feedback and it was nice to hear about all of the fun he has at school, because he can't tell us himself quite yet!
Here are a few of my favorite highlights/comments from his conference:
*Will can follow 2-step directions. He can put his spoon away and put his towel in the laundry.
*He says, "No, mine!" when another child takes his toy (both good and bad)!
*He shows intense feelings for his parents. :)
*He is beginning to show empathy towards others. For example, a child was crying and Will brought her a toy block to comfort her.
*He loves rough and tumble play and will take turns when asked.
*He loves to take things apart.
*He loves to climb.
*He can jump in place.
*Will can walk and kick a ball, as well as, throw a ball overhand without falling.
*Will uses vocal signals other than crying to gain assistance.
These were a few of the comments we got to take home with us. Will is the "baby" of the class and his teachers were happy to tell us how far he had come since August. Many of his classmates are almost a whole year older than him, which has been a good incentive for him to try out new things. He is such a busy boy and has always loved watching and playing with older kids, so I'm glad this class has worked out so well for him. It has been great for all of us! :)
Here is a preview of Will's "school" picture (I took a picture of the picture with my phone, so sorry for the quality - we should get the actual pictures in soon):
